SUPPORTING PIONEERS OF COMMUNITY-LED CONSERVATION IN INVORY COAST

NatureConservAction_CotedIvoire_01.jpg

In the village of Yapokoi, in southern Côte d’Ivoire, on the edge of the tropical rainforest, live Jeanne and her daughter Rosalaine. Together, they possess invaluable knowledge about the medicinal plants of their region: knowledge passed down from generation to generation and shared with their community.

In 2024, they volunteered to work with us on a participatory science project carried out in collaboration with Domaine de la Rêverie, IDEF and ACB Côte d'Ivoire. In the field, they play a key role in collecting data on the local flora and are learning scientific inventory protocols specific to reptiles and amphibians. Rosalaine has even become the group’s photographer!

They serve as a voice for their community, sharing the initial research findings in their language, Attié. Jeanne is the representative for the women of the village, and through her commitment, she sends a powerful message to the women of her community.
