The “Coexisting” initiative supports three organized local communities that voluntarily conserve the biodiversity of their territory within a biocorridor spanning nearly 8,000 hectares, located in the Yaku Kawsanapa, Cordillera de Vaquero, and Sacha Runa conservation concessions. In the Lamista Kichwa language, the biocorridor is called “shunku sacha,” which means “the heart of the forest.”
This initiative is led by two partner organizations, in collaboration with community associations, with support of the IUCN French Committee and Le Poids du Vivant Foundation. Nature Conserv’Action is a French organization that bridges science and communities to achieve biodiversity conservation in the planet’s critical ecosystems. Ararankha Ecología y Conservación is a Peruvian organization focused on scientific research, particularly in herpetology.
How can we translate scientific research and traditional knowledge into concrete actions that foster better coexistence and connection between people and their land?
Given the serious threats facing the Amazon rainforests, this question is of urgent importance to us. That is why we have developed a comprehensive strategy combining communication, art, and participatory education, focused on biodiversity conservation.
